I’m actually writing and publishing this from somewhere around 38,000 feet on the flight home from VMware Explore.
I probably should have waited until I got back, sorted through my notes, organized the recordings, and figured out exactly what I wanted to write about first. But after several days of sessions, conversations, demos, and seeing some genuinely cool stuff, I couldn’t really help myself.
There’s a lot I want to dig into.
I attended quite a few sessions this week, and for many of them I recorded the audio specifically because I knew there was no way I was going to remember everything once Explore was over. Some of the sessions were directly related to things I’m already working with in VCF. Others introduced ideas and capabilities that I hadn’t spent much time with yet but definitely want to understand better.
Rather than trying to cram all of that into one giant “here’s what happened at VMware Explore” article, I think there’s a better way to do it.
I’m Bringing Some of Explore Back to VCF Insider
Over the next several weeks, I’m going to start working my way through those recordings and notes and turn some of the more interesting topics into articles here on VCF Insider.
I don’t want these to simply be transcripts of conference sessions or rewritten versions of presentation slides. There’s not much value in me telling you that somebody stood on a stage and showed a slide.
What I want to do is go back through what was presented, understand how it actually works, and then look at it from the perspective of those of us who have to design, deploy, upgrade, troubleshoot, and operate this stuff after the conference is over.
Some sessions will probably turn into individual articles. Others may make more sense grouped together, especially when several sessions touched different pieces of the same technology.
And knowing me, some of them will probably send me down completely different rabbit holes.
There’s a Lot to Go Back Through
I already have several topics in mind, but I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself before I’ve had a chance to go back through everything.
I have recordings to transcribe, notes to organize, pictures to sort through, and probably a few sessions I’ve temporarily forgotten about after several days of bouncing from one room to another.
That’s probably one of my biggest takeaways from Explore this year. I came here looking for more information about technologies I’m already working with and ended up leaving with a much longer list of things I want to learn about.
And that’s a good problem to have.
So consider this the beginning of the VMware Explore series on VCF Insider.
Apparently, it begins at 38,000 feet.
